Taste of the MonthThere is unfortunately not a whole lot to say about the beers of Spain. They are clean tasting, that's for sure, crisp and refreshing, too. But as far as complexity or taste fulfilment goes, well, let's just say that none of the beers I tasted from Cruzcampo, Damm, Mahou or El Aguila are about to join the ranks of Salvator, Orval or Guinness any time soon. However, when speaking of those selfsame beers of Spain, it is important to remember that for most of the year in most of the country, Spain is hot! And so it was that Christine and I discovered the Taste of the Month for August. The place was the Barcelona beach and the temperature was scorching when Christine and I were out for an after-lunch stroll. After a time, as we turned back to head towards the city, a thirst that no bottled water could quench hit each of us, hard. Fortunately, the drink stands nearby the beach sell cans of Estrella Damm lager for a mere 100 pesetas, or about CN$1 or US$0.75. They were cold, moderately hopped, quenching and a wonderful break for our parched throats. Proof yet again that with beer as with most food and drink, context is vital.
