- I am interested the growth and history of brewpubs, especially in Colorado. Enjoy reading your material, thanks.
-- Bill Elston
- Thank you for the vote of support, Bill. I generally visit Colorado at least once a year -- not counting airplane transfers through the Denver International Airport -- and am always impressed by the incredible number of new breweries that seem to sprout up like hop shoots out there. I have not yet decided whether I'll make it this year, but I will try to get someone to furnish me with a report from the Great American Beer Festival if I am unable to go myself.
- Yeah!!!!
-- Ilona Biro
- Ms. Biro may be a woman of few words, but that is likely because she is hard at work at one of the hottest new sites on the web -- Edible Planet. Check it out at www.edibleplanet.com, and yes, you can even find some of my stuff there.
- On August 8/97 I heard you on CBC Radio. You were talking about a cherry ale from Belgium. Can I please have the name of this ale and where I can get it? Thanks.
-- Kevin Bisgould
- Cherries are a traditional flavouring agent for beer in Belgium, Kevin, and the style their addition produces is called kriek. The specific brand I was referring to on air was from the Lindemans Brewery and is available in limited quantities through the LCBO in Ontario, as well as in certain other provinces and across the States. Try also to check out krieks by Cantillon, Liefmans, Boon and Jacobins.
- We bought Stephen Beaumont's Great Canadian Beer Guide at the World's Biggest Bookstore in Toronto in 1994. Since we frequently visit Ontario (Stratford, Shaw, Toronto...) and enjoy good beer, his book is as valuable a reference as the provincial highway map and AAA tour guide. Keep up the good work!
-- Paul Ruschmann/Maryanne Nasiatka
- Thanks very much, Paul and Maryanne, glad to hear that you enjoy the Guide. The next time you find yourselves in Toronto, try stopping by Smokeless Joe's on John Street in the Theatre District of downtown. It's a relatively new beer bar and well worth the visit; I may even see you there!
