I was looking at your back issues and I was happy to see Bison represented. Glad you liked our local treasure. Unfortunately, a couple of months ago, they went out of business and reopened a few weeks later under new ownership. I think their normal lines will stay, don't know if the brewers are changed, food looks more upscale.

It's looking more yuppie than the eclectic student-oriented brewery that it was. I have yet to visit, as I was living out of town for a few months, but I hope things haven't changed too much.

I wasn't able to visit the Bison when I was recently back in the Bay area, Ken, but I share with you the hope that the new owners don't change things around too much. With brewer Scott Meyer gone, though, I can't help but think that a much different Bison is in the offing.

read with interest your piece on the kentucky bourbon festival. three of us from a toronto radio station are planning a trip to the states in may, and we have a tour of bourbon country on the agenda. i'm wondering if you could offer advice, travel tips and maybe provide contacts for us when we get there? is there an e-mail contact for the kentucky bourbon circle?

how about the small batch distillers like booker noe?

any help would be appreciated

Bardstown is the heart of bourbon country, Jeff, so it makes sense to start there. Contact Bardstown-Nelson County Tourism at 1-800-638-4877 or 502-348-4877, or visit their website at www.win.net/bardstown

There are 10 bourbon distilleries in Kentucky, all within an easy drive from Louisville. They are: Louisville -- Brown Forman, United; Clermont -- Jim Beam; Frankfort -- Blanton; Loretto -- Maker's Mark; Lawrenceberg -- Wild Turkey, Four Roses; Bardstown -- Heaven Hill, Barton; Versailles -- Labrot and Graham. Not all give tours and few are set up to do so on a regular basis, so I'd suggest calling in advance. (You should be able to get the phone numbers from the tourism office.)

Hello.

Hope you can help us, we have looked everywhere to no avail. My husband (the collector/brewer) has heard of a conference, maybe the American Home Brewers Association or a mini-Great American Beer Fest in Baltimore on May 16th. We will be there then and he would like to drop in, but cannot get any details. Would really appreciate your suggestions or assist. Thanks from Toronto.
