Feedback -- Your Comments, Criticisms and ContributionsRead the article on the Brick Brewery and was wondering if you had an e-mail address for them. I liked your article and I like their beer. Thanks in advance Sorry, but I don't have any email info for Brick. (To my knowledge, they aren't yet on-line.) If you wish to contact them by more conventional means, try:
I am thinking of having a beer tasting party for the Holyfield V. Lewis fight in March. What types of beers should I present at the party and which do you recommend? I have some die hard Coors Light fans and I am trying to show them that there is other beer out there. I have an awesome liquor store near me that sells all types of beer by the bottle, so I should have acess to a wide array of beers. Thanks for your help. -- Vince Scarduzio You present me with a very interesting challenge: What beers go with fight night? I had never previously considered the matter. For your Coors Light drinkers, I would suggest stocking an array of wheat beers. Celis White is a good one, and also a beer that would be appreciated by connoisseurs. Others include: Hoegaarden White, Widmer Hefeweizen (not in my opinion a truely great beer, but one that will generate curiosity with its intense cloudiness), Erdinger Hefeweizen, Schneider Weisse (a classic!), Tabernash Weisse, Blanche de Chambly and Pyramid Hefeweizen. As things get more intense in the ring, you'll want more intense beers. I'd suggest moving from the wheats through British-style best bitters, brown ales and American amber ales. For the climax, perhaps something stronger but still quaffable, such as a bock, Belgian-style strong blonde ale (Duvel) or tripel (Eau Benite, Westmalle). i've got a bottle of thomas hardy's ale 1989 with an id no. 14047. what can u tell me? My advice would be to store it in a cool, dark place for another five to ten years. My notes from 1993 showed that it was maturing wonderfully and should have a long and glorious life, providing, of course, that it has been properly stored over the past decade.
This year's Book and Cook schedule has just been announced. There will be 5 beer-related events, involving Michael Jackson and Lew Bryson, author of the newly-published Pennsylvania Breweries. Bryson will participate in a beer-tasting at Samuel Adams Brewhouse on March 23 and a beer dinner at McMenamin's Tavern on March 24. Jackson will participate in dinners at the University Museum on March 26 and Monk's Cafe on March 28, and a beer-tasting at the University Museum on March 27. -- Howard Rosenthal Thanks for the B&C info. I won't be able to make it this year, but it sounds like a good line-up.
