Upcoming Belgian Beer Tours
July 29, 1999 --
Home to many of the world's most interesting and wonderful beers, Belgium is fast ecoming the number one destination for beer-savvy voyagers. And now two American companies and one British one are making it that much easier to see and drink all that is Belgium.
4Winds Specialty Tours, a division of Kennewick Travel, Inc./American Express based in Kennewick, Washington, is first off the mark with a Bike, Barge and Brewery Tour of Belgium and Holland. Designed for travellers who want to do more than just sit on a bus the whole trip, the 9-day tour hits Amsterdam, Ghent, Bruges and Antwerp, as well as smaller towns, and visits breweries as large as Heineken and as small as Straffe Hendrik. The first trip leaves October 1 and details are available at www.4windstours.com.
In co-operation with Goose Island Brewing of Chicago, The Travel 100 Group has put together their own beer lover's trip to Belgium, this one with a side-stop in Germany at the famed kolsch city of Cologne. Ten days long and leaving November 4, this one is lead by Goose Island brewer, Greg Hall, and visits Brussels, Antwerp and Leuven, as well as both the Chimay and Orval Trappist monastery breweries. More info can be found at www.t100g.com/goosebelgium.
And for beer enthusiasts in the U.K., Simon Van Tromp, who knows more about Belgian beer than anyone this side of Stephen D'Arcy, still runs his Beer Bus tours for small groups into Belgium and northern France. It requires at least ten people to take advantage of Van Tromp's expertise, though. He can be reached at 01502 589403.
