July 10, 2004 - Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Caskival, Canada's 1st beer festival dedicated entirely to Real Ale!
Cask-conditioned beer (or real ale) is a time-honoured method of naturally carbonating beer by refermentation in a firkin-sized (9 gallon) cask. Beer is served directly from the cask at cellar temperatures using no external gas, allowing the subtle flavors and aromas to be fully experienced. This technique was employed throughout brewing history before the relatively recent advent of glass bottles and gas-fed kegs, and to this day remains the perfect showcase for the art of brewing. A dozen cask ales will be featured, with a wide range of styles and flavors, sure to meet the tastes of even the most demanding beer fans. Brewers from throughout B.C. will be on hand with their knowledge and hospitality to "facilitate the tasting experience".

Seattle International Beerfest
SIB celebrates the world's most legendary brewing styles and the nations that made them famous. Come taste 125 world-class beers from 15 or more countries. The beers of SIB represent all that's possible in the world of brewing, including many that are quite obscure yet hold their own place in world history as the birth of a new brewing style. Our primary goal is to introduce people to the greatest beers in the world they've never heard of. SIB features primarily European beers in appreciation of centuries-old world beer history, but always also includes a handful of the best American-made examples of classic European styles. With great honor, we raise our glasses to these carefully chosen US breweries. NEW IN 2004: The BRAVE NEW WORLD collection, an All-American showcase featuring US-indigenous beers which are completely original styles or hybrids, all developed in the United States. SIB will feature about 15 examples from local craft breweries in this category.
