Tales of the Cocktail

Not a beer event, of course, but the largest celebration of the cocktail seen anywhere in the United States and perhaps the world. Listen to experts on spirits and bartending expound upon the benefits of a superbly mixed drink, sample premium rums, tequilas and other fine spirits, and dine in style with paired cocktails at some of the finest restaurants in the Big Easy. The fourth anniversary edition of this exciting event is simply not to be missed.

Location: Centered at the Hotel Monteleone, but with events at various locations around the city

July 26, 2007 to July 29, 2007 - Portland, Oregon, United States

Oregon Brewers Festival - 20 years of craft beers

Seventy-two of the finest craft breweries from across the country will each send one product to serve at the event, regarded by some industry experts and beer fans as the premier craft beer festival in the nation. More than 50,000 beer connoisseurs will travel from around the world to sample from a vast variety of beer styles and flavors.

Location: Tom McCall Waterfront Park
Hours: Thursday through Saturday, noon - 9:00 pm; Sunday, noon - 7:00 pm
Admission: Admission for entry into the festival grounds is free. A 2007 souvenir mug, required for consuming beer, costs $4 and tokens are $1 each.

August 7 - 11, 2007 - London, England

30th Annual Great British Beer Festival

"The World's Largest Pub" is the nickname for this granddaddy of beer fests, and for good reason. Sample from hundreds of cask-conditioned ales, ciders, perries and foreign beers while listening to live music, indulging in pub games or simply chatting with fellow punters. Breweriana also available for purchase and food stands provide additional sustenance.

Location: Earl's Court, London
Hours: Tuesday, 5:00 - 10:30 pm; Wednesday through Friday, noon - 10:30 pm; Saturday, 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
Admission: £8.00 each session except for Saturday, which is £6.00 (£2.00 discount for CAMRA members). Beer costs are extra.
