Hello Stephen,

I read and enjoyed your conversation with Lew Bryson in Vol. 17, No. 3 of "Ale Street News." May I offer a cocktail I came up with a couple of years ago? I did not name it, so if you have a name to suggest, please let me know.

Into a large snifter (ie: Duvel glass) put 2 oz. sweet sherry. Add one bottle Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barleywine-Style Ale. Sip.

Sounds like a good idea, Michael. A "Walk Softly with a Bigfoot," perhaps?

(After our email exchange, Mike offered up another cocktail recipe, this one harkening to America's colonial days:

"Get a large mug. Pour a bottle of Anchor Our Special Ale into a small saucepan fitted with a lid (or you can use a microwave, I guess). Slowly heat it to about 180 degrees F. (Watch out for foaming over; if it foams, just crack the lid a little bit.) Pour the beer into the mug. Add 2 tablespoons brown sugar, or 1 tablespoon brown sugar and 1 tablespoon honey. Add 2 oz. amontillado. Stir. Float a piece of buttered toast on top. Grate nutmeg over it. If you want to impress someone with the look of the drink, put a cinnamon stick in it. "

Being out of Our Special Ale at present, I have yet to try this one out. Sounds interesting, though.)

Stephen,

I'm going to Helsinki and Stockholm soon and am looking for some good beer bars. I remember an article you wrote for Ale Street News that contained some Helsinki beer bars. Of course, I don't have that issue. Can you refer some to me?

Thanks,
Mark
