Dear Sir:
A reactionary advocate of abstinence recently accused major breweries of adding "addictive chemicals" to their product. He indicated that he was not referring to fermented alcohol.

As a homebrewer and micro-brewery aficionado, I tend to avoid the beers produced by the large American breweries. However, I would like to be able to discuss this issue with him in an intelligent manner. Of course his dismissal of all beer based on these hypothesized practices is ridiculous. I gather he received his information from some backwood newsletter or his grandma, but I would appreciate any direction you might send me if you have ever heard a similar rumour. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Mason T. Beecroft

You can tell the person in question that the production of beer in the United States and Canada is strictly covered by each country's respective food and drug administrations and that there is no way that a brewery would risk all by running afoul of those regulations. Think about it, Anheuser-Busch is a massive corporation that already produces some 42% of all the beer consumed in the U.S.; that they would risk all that by putting some unauthorized, addictive substance in their products is nothing short of ludicrous.

But I suspect that the "reactionary advocate" in question will not be appeased by this information. No doubt he or she will harp on about bribes, government complicity, etc. and pay no heed to your sound logic. I'd recommend going for a beer somewhere quiet instead. ;o)

Could you please tell me how much beer is consumed from Friday night, 6pm until Sunday night, 6pm?

Thank you,
Fay

Well, let's see, I had a couple of pints on Friday night, a bottle with lunch on Saturday...

No doubt you don't want my personal stats, but numbers for the U.S. or North America or the world? Well, unfortunately, that data is to my knowledge not available anywhere. Besides, even if it were measurable, the amount would vary widely depending upon the time of year (ie: higher around the holidays and mid-summer, lower in the fall and January).

My name is Rich and I am interested in advertising in your magazine. I would appreciate if you could send me a sample copy of your magazine.
Thanks

Sorry, but we have no magazine to send -- it's all on the web. World of Beer is an Internet only magazine, but if you're still interested in advertising, we'd be happy to speak with you or anyone else interested in buying a banner. Please drop a line to Real Beer Inc. at sales@realbeer.com (415-522-1516).

Enjoyed your page! I am looking for Molson Excel..one of the best non-alcoholic brews I have encountered. Any ideas where to get it or if I can personally order it...Our stores are always out of it!

Pat Springfield, OH

I'm afraid that I can't answer your question directly, but I can point you in the right direction. Try the Molson website at www.molson.com. They have a feedback field that will allow you to ask the producer directly.

Hi,
I am trying to find Heather Ale/Leann Fraoch in Southern California. Does anyone know if this brew is available? Please let me know.
Thanks,
Milt

To find Heather Ale in your region, contact the brewery directly through their web site at www.heatherale.co.uk
