Your Comments, Criticisms and Contributions - September 2004
Thanks for your great reviews. Years ago I started drinking Trois Monts, a bière de garde, you recommended. It has been one of my favorites ever since. Thanks.

A stellar beer it is, LeRoy. Glad you found it. For a follow-up, have you explored the Belgian equivalent, the saison? If not, try Saison Dupont.
I heard that you have a list somewhere on your site that details the dates and brewers that you're bringing into beerbistro. Where is it, if it exists? Thanks,
- Jason
Sorry, Jason, but our website for beerbistro (www.beerbistro.com) is still being developed, so what you're looking for is actually not there yet. Eventually, we'll have a full schedule posted in the 'Events' section.
Mr. Beaumont,
I was reading your wrap-up for 2003, and I noticed that you pooh-poohed the idea that "value" (ie, discount) brands were gaining ground among consumers. I've heard that roughly 20% of all beer sold (in Ontario) is of the value variety, and with consumers tiring of paying more for essentially identically flavoured beer, the trend seems to be real (witness also the Lakeport and Brick buck-a-beer promos this summer). Why, may I ask, don't you think this is a real trend?

My comments were less about price and more about the media manufactured retro appeal of PBR. In fact, the case I have made in several outlets, including Malt Advocate magazine, is that PBR's real appeal is price, not retro-chic.
