Your Comments, Criticisms and Contributions - January 2006
Greetings.
For more than 30 years I have traveled the world in the course of building an extensive, private collection of ancient documents and historical manuscripts. I hold in my collection one of the world's oldest surviving examples of writing. it is an inscribed clay tablet, dated in the 45th year of the reign of Shulgi, the legendary King of the ancient Kingdom of Ur. This translates to more than 4,000 years ago. This ancient document is a dated and signed receipt for the delivery of beer by the ancient Ur brewer, Alulu. Consider, that only what were considered very important events were written at that time, given the very limited number of available, literate scribes.
No political documents of this time period are known to exist...only a 4 millenia old receipt for beer. The ancients certainly had their priorities straight.
If it may amuse you to see this ancient document, go to: www.breweriana.com/history.html.
Cordially,
- Tom L. Lee, Ph.D.
Interesting. And obviously an ideal example of well-placed priorities. Thanks for writing.
My husband has always mentioned a beer called STEGMEYER (spelling might be off - sorry) - I am trying to locate where I can purchase this beer to surprise him for Christmas and not sure where to start. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Stegmaier is a brand of the Lion Brewery of Pennsylvania. Check out http://www.lionbrewery.com/ for distribution info.
Dear regards,
I would like to draw your attention to web page www.pivovary.info. It is Czech page with actual summary of Czech breweries and beers in English version. You can find there also the photo gallery of Czech old and present breweries, the gallery Czech labels and Czech beer links.

Thank you for the email, Marek. That is indeed an impressive page with plenty of info, and not only have I already bookmarked it, but I've passed the link along to a few colleagues and, now, World of Beer readers.
