Meet Phil Burns, General Manager of WOB Bar & Kitchen in Coconut Creek, FL!

Meet Phil Burns, the General Manager of World of Beer Bar & Kitchen in Coconut Creek, FL! Phil’s journey with WOB started long before he ever joined the team. From loyal guest to bartender, to working his way up through multiple leadership roles, Phil has now been with the company for over a decade and has proudly led the Coconut Creek location for nearly five years. His story is one of growth, passion, and community, both inside and outside the walls of WOB.

Can you tell us a little about your background and how you found your way to World of Beer?

I first discovered World of Beer back in 2008 while attending USF, when I visited my very first location. My first beer was a Sea Dog Blueberry, and I was hooked. In 2010, I moved back home to Hollywood, Florida, just as the Coconut Creek location opened, where I became a frequent guest and loyal member for several years until I had the opportunity to join the team myself.

In 2016, I moved to the Plantation location, where I worked my way up from KM to GM. When Plantation closed in 2019, Holly Mauser gave me the opportunity to join her team as AGM. Shortly after the pandemic, I was promoted and have proudly been running the Coconut Creek location for almost five wonderful years now.

How long have you been with World of Beer, and what roles have you held here?

Just passed 10 years. Started as a bartender then shift lead, to KM, GM, AGM, then back to GM.

What’s your favorite part about being a manager at World of Beer?

Without a doubt, it’s the relationships I’ve built with our regulars, staff, and support team that mean the most to me. This company has consistently shown me respect and genuine kindness. When my daughter was diagnosed with cancer in 2023, my family and I received nothing but compassion, understanding, and support throughout nearly two years of challenges. World of Beer was there for me when I needed it most, and I’ll continue to be here for WOB for as long as I can.

What’s your go-to beer recommendation for a first-time guest?

Sixpoint Resin IIPA will always be my #1. But for the 1st timer, I’d say Delirium Tremens (Strong and Sweet).

How would you describe the culture at World of Beer?

We’re a place for the people and by the people. Our staff from top to bottom understand the value of communication and understanding. We strive to bring that to the table every day, with a coaster of course.

What makes your location unique?

Being 15+ years old, my location has a such a great and unique history. From the thousands of loyalty members, to our large group of 5+ year employees. It feels more like a family every year .

What are you most excited about for the future of World of Beer?

The fact that we are a concept that has, and will continue to evolve and progress without missing a beat. “Be like water, my friend” -Bruce Lee
